Vancouver Poutine Festival 2013 Announced: More Poutine plus rock bands

It seems like Vancouver just can’t get its fill of poutine.  On the heels of a wave of new poutinerie openings, details on the 2013 Poutine Festival have just been announced.  And if you love fries, cheese curds and gravy, this may just be the event of the year.

Highlights include something called an “experimental poutine tasting” and a poutine-inspired rock concert.  Attendees at last year’s inaugural Poutine Festival (where supplies of poutine ran dangerously low and crowds were much larger than expected) will be relieved to know that organizers have booked more poutine and a bigger venue this year. The event poster itself (below) is a work of art: cheering crowds raise their forks, while a sloppy plate of poutine takes centre stage.

The second annual instalment of the Festival de la Poutine de Vancouver is set for March 9 inside Main Street’s stately Heritage Hall, the century-old post office on the corner of Main and 15th.  It’s held in collaboration with La Belle Patate, which – as confirmed by  yesterday’s post on where to find the city’s best poutine – ranks among Vancouver’s most revered poutineries.  The festival also doubles as a celebration of Francophone culture (fitting, of course, since poutine is a Quebecois innovation).

Here’s how the event is shaping up:

First, a family-themed afternoon festival is set to run from noon-5 p.m.  Tickets are $10 for adults (one free poutine included), while kids get in for free.  Enjoy access to a customizable poutine “salad bar,” while roving magicians and clowns spread the poutine gospel.  Francophone act Hugo le Chansonnier and alt-rockers Liftoff will perform.

After dark (from 6 p.m. to late), the Poutine Fest really heats up.  Tickets are $20 for adults (one free poutine included).  Spice up your life with an experimental poutine tasting (“the most original yet tasteful poutines ever made – all night long,” according to organizers).  Meanwhile, Francophone DJ K-Maro will provide the entertainment, and there will be encores by Hugo le Chansonnier and Liftoff.
